About Conference

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I invite all pilots to participate in the 59th EMPA Conference in Krakow.
We planned to meet in Batumi, Georgia. However, unforeseen circumstances forced us to change the location. We are aware of the enormous 2-year effort that our colleagues from Georgia put into preparing the conference. We hope that we will soon meet there in more favorable circumstances.
20 years ago, in 2005, we hosted pilots in Poland in Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot during the 39th EMPA Conference. This time we invite you to the beautiful, historic city of Krakow, full of interesting places, saturated with monuments, and wonderful restaurants, where you will be able to enjoy flavors from all over the world. We will provide you with unforgettable experiences while visiting the Old Town and the underground corridors of the legendary Wieliczka Salt Mine.
Since the Middle Ages, Krakow has been the cradle of science and culture. Here is one of the oldest universities in the world, numerous museums and the unique Wawel Dragon. With a bit of luck, you will witness it breathing fire.
During the session, we will address the topic of artificial intelligence and autonomous ships. We will talk about pilot safety and the impact of economic pressure on port operations.
I am sure that the atmosphere of Krakow will contribute to the fruitfulness of the session, and the leisure time will remain in your memory for a long time.
Hope to see you in Krakow!

Social Program
“Royal Route” Krakow Walking Tour – Conference Tour
The Wawel Hill on which it sits constitutes the most historically and culturally significant site in Poland. A fortified residency on the Vistula River in Krakow, it was established on the orders of King Casimir III the Great and enlarged over the centuries into a number of structures around an Italian-styled courtyard. It represents nearly all European architectural styles of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The Main Market Square It is the central point of Krakow, with handcraft stores, street artists, and flower shops. It is surrounded by restaurants and has plenty of buildings with touristic interest. The Market Square was built in 1257 after the Mongol hordes invaded Poland and razed the city. At the time, it was the largest market square in Europe and still has a vibrant atmosphere.
The Church of St. Mary’s dominates the Krakow skyline and is responsible for a very timely and familiar sound. It is from here that visitors will hear a bugle call on the hour every hour ring out across the city, a historical tradition that continues to this day.
Cloth Hall (Polish: Sukiennice) is one of the symbols of the city. It is a central building in the Main Market Square, in the Old town. Apart from small shops under the arcades, there is also The Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art. The Medieval Shopping Centre was built in 1257, but the original structure needed renovating after it was ravaged by fire in 1555.
Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour for accompanying person
Magnificent chambers chiselled out in rock salt. Amazing underground saline lakes, majestic timber constructions and unique statues sculpted in salt. Almost 3 kilometres of meandering corridors, 800 steps to climb of which 350 have to be descended to reach the depth of 135 meters underground. Thus it is no surprise that till now, the Tourist Route, the main visiting route of the mine has been visited by 36,000,000 tourists from around the whole world in search of adventures.
The journey starts at the Danilowicz Shaft. Here, visitors meet their guide, who during their excursion will tell them everything they want to know about the mine history and its secrets. About the forces of nature ruling within the depths of the mine, about the ethos of hard work performed by the generations of miners. Travelling further and further into the mine chasm tourists discover unusual places and see with their own eyes the power of human hands that once excavated rock salt, as well as magnificent mining tools and machines.

Kazimierz District Walking Tour for accompanying person
Kazimierz is a historical district of Krakow and Krakow Old Town, Poland. From its inception in the 14th century to the early 19th century, Kazimierz was an independent city, a royal city of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, located south of the Old Town of Krakow, separated from it by a branch of the Vistula river. For many centuries, Kazimierz was a place where ethnic Polish and Jewish cultures coexisted and intermingled. The northeastern part of the district was historically Jewish. In 1941, the Jews of Krakow were forcibly relocated by the German occupying forces into the Krakow ghetto just across the river in Podgórze, and most did not survive the war. Today, Kazimierz is one of the major tourist attractions of Krakow and an important center of cultural life of the city.
